چکیده

This paper introduces a novel approach of software download management for reconfigurable terminals using common channels in WCDMA system. We introduce in this paper protocols, which enhance cellgrouping broadcast approach for software downloads that, are mainly used to reduce interference in interference limited CDMA based system. In addition, it gives the fundamental load based criteria in system level to divert software download traffic between common channels and dedicated channels, as it is enhanced by packet indexing based software download strategy. With introducing the concept of software download mode, the actions in this mode and protocols of inter-mode handover listed in the end of this paper give the realization of software download management in WCDMA system.

Joint Radio Resource Management and QoS Implications of Software Downloading for SDR Terminals

This paper presents research on advanced spectrum sharing techniques lead in TRUST and focuses on Radio Access Technologies’ (RATs) joint radio resource management (JRRM). This paper provides details on cellular FDD/TDD JRRM and addresses the different sources of traffic (regular asymmetric and download) to be considered in an SDR context. The TRUST research on impact of software downloads on U...

End-to-end IP multicast for software upgrades of reconfigurable user terminals within IMT-2000/UMTS networks

The paper at hand proposes a viable technique for performing software upgrades of reconfigurable user terminals across the entire Public Land Mobile Network (PLMN) of an IMT-2000/UMTS network. The proposed solution utilizes over-the-air software download in conjunction with IP multicast as the enabling technology. The interaction between logical network elements within the PLMN required in orde...

A performance adjustable and reconfigurable CDMA receiver concept for UMTS-FDD

Currently most of the terminals for UMTS-FDD implement a simple Rake receiver. This paper shows how the Rake, including despreading and descrambling, could be replaced by a least squares receiver that can be implemented on a Cordic based hardware architecture. The performance in conjunction with the computational requirements of the receiver is widely adjustable. Simulation results show that th...

Reconfigurable Radio Case Study: A Software Based Multi-standard Transceiver for

N a near future, base stations in Europe and Japan will have to support at least the following communication standards: GSM, EDGE, UMTS-FDD and UMTS-TDD, adding BlueTooth for terminals. A software radio (SWR) approach should permit to make substantial savings by avoiding the duplication of the entire radio systems in the equipment. This will be beneficial for both OEMs and network operators and...

Reconfigurable mobile communications: compelling needs and technologies to support reconfigurable terminals

To date, research into reconfigurable mobile communications has predominantly focussed on the software radio concept, and specifically on the hardware technologies required to move physical layer processing into a programmable environment [ 1][2][3]. Although an interesting and necessary challenge, this only represents a fraction of the overall support and technology required to realise the pot...
